Choosing Happiness is NOT Avoiding Problems

Have you ever met a person who seems “unf*ckwithable”? No matter how dicey things around them get, they are a chilling like Gandalf blowing smoke rings out of a pipe. Problems are closing in, but there is a force field around them. Yeah, me too. Their ability to keep their cool and happiness in the face of adversity is baffling. Do they not see the crap going on around here? Inflation, trauma, health disparities, the fact that Dollar Tree sells items for $1.25?! Are they avoiding reality? Is avoiding reality… dissociating back to simpler times (*cue Ben Platt’s song “childhood bedroom”) the only way to be happy in this crazy world? That would be blissfully nostalgic and ignorant, but also pretty sad.
